Dear Chucksville, I enjoyed the story on Chaco Canyon. and where is the hot tub? in your secret backyard hideaway. Here is a comment on a recent news item. A pharmaceutical company invented a patch to increase sexual desire in women, especially ones with ovaries removed like my girlfriend Pamela. So I told her if it comes on the market I will double her up on the patches. I don't care if the side effects include blindness, kidney failure, respiratory ailments, or loss of teeth. It could be worth it! 07-Dec-04

Dear Chuck,
chucksville.org, to me, was like taking a huge bong hit. Like drawing a cold tap beer and chugging it fast. Similar to looking down, while at the very top of the tallest rollercoaster at Great America and then letting gravity take hold of the ride. Almost like having Mike Tyson take his best, hardest swing at your head, and making him miss ! I was thrilled to look at the information to say the least !!! Looking forward to being a regular.
Love and Peace,

A great revisit to Chicago through your eyes. Brought back memories of when we were kids, and our Dad used to take us to trade shows. I remember the big shopping bags he brought back filled with all sorts of fascinating things.
Also loved your happy response to your successful flights. May all of your trips be as happy, and your return to Chicago this week be just as much fun.

I bought a wonderful squash blossom from Mr. Candelaria and his wife in 1985/6 when they were still open to the public. I almost bought 50 acres of land they had for sale - and now wish I had...we (US) should not steal this land from this wonderful man. 22-Oct-08

Hello, I am looking for information about Chloride NM and San Antonio, San Marcial, etc and dripping springs. All mining interests in that area.
I am a relative of Capt Jack Crawford, Austin Crawford, Rebecca James and Will James, Maud Richards Crawford (married name - schoolma'am in Chloride), etc. My grandfather, Ernest Brechtel worked in Chloride as a mining engineer, and married May C. Crawford, school-teacher at San Antonio, where he was Conrad Hilton's roomate.
Any links, etc. to follow the tale will be appreciated.

Kim Gugin Learnard:
Chuck and Jim, thanks for a terrific story! I might have been in one of the 'yellowed photos', as I have been vacationing at Big Rock since I was 10 years old - and that was 40 years ago! My family and I can't wait to come back to Leech Lake again this summer. 29-Jan-09
Jim Gugin:
Chuckster. I am Jim, younger brother of Kim Gugin Learnard below. Leech Lake is my heaven on earth. As a young boy we stayed in #13. Now we own #6 and Kim and husband Rob own #7 in which you stayed. The spiritual offerings of that place only grow. It is unlike any other lake in any other setting. A few more visits and you will know what I mean. I am glad, always, when someone is touched in a small way by what now owns me heart: wondrous Leech Lake. Jim 29-Jan-09

Joel Nicoll:
Of course this will be very slanted, but, what a wonderful website. I was just referred to it yesterday and was I ever surprised !! I have, in the last few days, decided to offer this entire ranch for sale, including all the farm equipment and the dance hall/studio. If any of you city folks are ready for a welcome retreat of hustle & bustle, come look me up. This was my grandfathers original homestead from the 1800's and it will be hard to see it go outside the family but it really is a heaven on earth. The sunsets and sunrises thru the Ponderosa Pine and the Pinon and Juniper are at a minimum, spectacular. Thank you so very much for giving so generously of your time and space. Hosteen Dzill (that is "Mountain Man" in Navajo) Joel Nicoll 08-Feb-09
Jeremy Nicoll:
Uncle Joel referred me to this site. Awesome! We just listened to the music and saw the old pictures. Bunches were my relatives. My kids got a little culture from my old stomping grounds since we don't visit New Mexico. Thanks for doing this. Greetings from Fairbanks Alaska. 10-Feb-09

The Steroid Era sports scandals abound funnelling fees to attorneys squalid headlines and tarnished reputations we can turn this situation about-face by a sanction of the steroid era make enhancement drugs available to athletes with million dollar contracts they can afford to enrich pharmaceutical companies advertiser revenue would increase more long-standing records would fall players would perform heroic feats fans would enjoy more high-flying games ticket sales would escalate drugs of lessor potency could be offered to bush and little leagues players would not have to resort to subterfuge and denial let's draw an imaginary line through the void like B.C. & A.D. start the steroid era and everybody wins 12-Mar-09
Dave:
First went to Big Rock resort on Leech Lake in 1954 with my family. Spent 16 summers there. Most of the family relatives spent several weeks or months at Big Rock as well.
One August we took over most of the resort with 34 relative and family.
I worked on summer for the Ed Katula when he was ill.
The A-frame house overlooking the old harbor entrance was built by my Aunt and Uncle.
Hope to return again. 27-Apr-09
Rick:
Hi Chuck,
I found your site while trolling on the SJC website. I love reading your adventures and am passing some along to another old friend who is a railroad buff.. All the best from years ago, Rick 28-Apr-09
Robert (Steve) Gillespie:
Information on the Ramah I remember from my childhood seems extremely scarce. Thank you for your work here. I remember well thye music of Leon Lambson and his band as well as that of Kirk Clawson and his band. To hear that ramah music once more after all these years gives me goosebumps. Those old pictures you have posted, many of which featured my relatives and acquaintances from another time and seemingly another world are priceless. You have done a wonderful work here. Thank you! 02-May-09
Shelly:
Dear Chucky:
Thank you for inviting me along(via your writing) to Leech Lake. What a wonderful visit I had with you, Jim, and the kids. And I didn't even have to get sea sick or bitten by a bug to come along! Who'd a thunk my brother would turn into such an accomplished fishmerman! I loved it!
Shelly 02-May-09
Pamela Gillespie Mack:
Dear Chuck,
My brother directed me to this site and if you ever wanted to see someone become emotional over music then you should see me bawl when I listen to selection #2 from the Ramah Bluegrass music! Oh my gosh, it's like the best parts of my childhood and teen years all played before my eyes. There is no way to thank you for what you have done on this site for so many of us. Not only is the music unbelievably touching to those of us who knew it "then", but also the photos are a real treat from a bygone time...and many of those photos are from my ancestors too! 05-May-09
Chris Jones:
This is a very interesting site you have here! I enjoyed stumbling upon the Leech Lake story while searching for camping tips, and it's nice to see others enjoying the spirit of the outdoors as well. If you have some spare cash lying around, buy a .22 and build a survival kit for survivalist camping! Nothing is quite like EARNING your meals. It'll make a Teddy Roosevelt out of anyone. Have a nice day man, and keep on having fun! 29-May-09

The Ball Launcher reviews were awesome. You went to great lengths to exercise your pup. The Chuck-it works great for "exorcizing" the Heebie jeebies out of my crazy Crenshaw... and since he's a pit bull he is very good at bringing the ball back but if you throw it too far, and he can't see where it landed, then you have to walk out there and find it for him. ha ha obviously no retriever in that bloodline anyhoo I look forward to checking out the rest of your pages, take care of that arm! 02-Jun-09

Wonderful presentation of TRESTLE, Horizontal Test Platform, A second Vertical Platform site can be seen to the West. This was never completed due to Congress and funding.
I was Genersl Construction Manager for Hunt Corp. and was first person on site when construction started in 1972. The erection started in April, 1975 and was one of the most interesting projects I ever built.
Thanks for your effort in presenting this amazing engineering marvel. 02-Jun-09

I enjoyed the account of your visit to Chloride, New Mexico. It brought back great memories of the visit my wife and I, along with our daughter's in-laws, made there about three years ago. The Pioneer Store Museum was a real treat as were other aspects of the town. Well worth visiting. And thanks for your site! If you'd like to visit mine, go to www.rivercountryjournal.com.
